An exceptional day at the Worldbuilding Africa’s Futures workshop at the University of Lagos in November 2025. Nommo Award winners and nominees, writers, researchers, scientists, policy thinkers, and students came together in one room, and the result was nothing short of electric.
This cross-disciplinary event was hosted by the ASFS and is a continuation of our partner initiative Applied African SF with Imperial College London.
From opening reflections from ASFS on how stories, technology, and nature shape every part of our world, to the deep dives into scientific worldbuilding and de-risking research through fiction, we explored how stories reveal what data alone can’t: our assumptions, our hopes, our blind spots, and the futures we dare to imagine.
